Hiroshima tours,
by what they actually buy.

7 formats comparedNo prices publishedTwo real gaps flagged

Every tour listing in this city looks the same from the outside. The useful question is not which is highest rated, it is what each format buys you that you cannot get by walking there yourself — a language, a door, a bicycle, a reservation, or somebody else owning the timetable.

Quick answer · 30 sec
DEPENDS buy the format, not the rating

Buy a guided Peace Park walk if you want the connective tissue between the monuments, which the park's own signage does not give you. Buy a Hiroshima + Miyajima day tour if the ferry and the tide are the parts you would rather not manage. Buy food, bar-hopping or sake if the barrier is doors and menus rather than distance. Skip a tour entirely for the Peace Memorial Museum itself — it is ¥200, the audio guide is ¥500 in 15 languages, and the daily 13:00 English testimony talk is free and needs no booking at all. We do not publish GetYourGuide prices, star ratings or review counts anywhere on this site — none of them could be verified.

What we will and will not tell you

How to read this page

We describe what each tour format buys. We do not publish prices, star ratings or review counts for any GetYourGuide product, because none of them could be verified to our standard on 4 August 2026 and all three move week to week.

That is not a hedge — it is the only honest position available. A price quoted here would be wrong within a fortnight, a rating quoted here would be a number we copied, and both would be the parts of the page readers trust most. What is stable is the shape of each product: how long it runs, what it includes, what it replaces, and whether the thing it replaces is difficult.

The self-guided alternative is genuinely strong in this city. The Peace Memorial Park is free and open at every hour, the museum is ¥200 with a ¥500 audio guide in 15 languages running about 70 minutes, the trams are a flat ¥240, and the whole centre is flat and walkable. A tour has to beat that, and several formats genuinely do.

We don't put a verdict badge on the Peace Memorial Museum, the Park, the Dome or the Cenotaph. They aren't purchases to be assessed, and ¥200 against 140,000 dead isn't a value calculation. Where a guided tour of them is worth the money we say so about the tour, not about the place.

Lengths are the typical published range for each format rather than a guarantee for any one product. Always read the specific listing for whether museum entry, the ¥300 Itsukushima Shrine admission, the ¥2,000 ropeway and the ¥100 Miyajima visitor tax are included — those four are where packaged prices differ most.

Guided walks of the park

Peace Park

Badging the tour, never the place. A guided walk of the Peace Memorial Park is a product and can be assessed like one; what it walks through is not.

GetYourGuide
Peace Memorial Park walking tour
The standard format: the outdoor monuments in sequence, typically 1.5–2 hours. Check whether museum entry is included or whether the tour stops at the door.

GetYourGuide
Early-morning Peace Memorial tour
The park before the coaches. Pairs naturally with the museum's 7:30 reservation-only opening slot, which is the single best hour of the day here.

GetYourGuide
Private Peace Memorial and Dome tour
Private buys you pace — the ability to spend three hours in the museum and cut the rest. That is the correct trade more often than people expect.

Combined day tours, across three providers

Hiroshima + Miyajima

The highest-value category in the city, and the one where inclusions vary most. Four things to check on every listing: museum entry, the ¥300 shrine admission, the ¥2,000 ropeway and the ¥100 visitor tax. The same day is sold on all three platforms below at different inclusions — compare them against each other rather than within one.

Our pick
GetYourGuide
Hiroshima and Miyajima UNESCO full-day tour
Both UNESCO sites in one guided day. No operator can move its ferry to suit your tide, so check the tide table for your date first — the flat middle band gives you neither photograph.

Klook
Hiroshima and Miyajima with the ferry ride
Klook's inventory for this city differs from GetYourGuide's rather than duplicating it, and Klook is also where the museum's own timed-entry slots are sold to overseas visitors. Worth checking both before booking either.

Miyajima and Itsukushima Shrine reviews
We do not publish star ratings or review counts because we could not verify them — but you can read the source yourself. Useful for judging whether an operator's "3 hours on the island" is really three hours.

The same ground, booked elsewhere

Peace Park, other providers

Two more platforms carry the Peace Park cluster, and Klook is the one overseas visitors are pointed to for the museum's own reservation-only entry slots.

Klook
Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Museum tour
The guided version of the museum visit. Remember the museum itself is ¥200 at the door outside the reservation windows — what you are buying here is the commentary, not the access.

Klook
Peace Park and Itsukushima private UNESCO day
Private is the only format that lets you set the museum's duration yourself. Given the museum's 11:00–14:00 peak, being able to shift your entry by two hours is the real product.

The formats that buy you doors

Food, bars and sake

The barrier in this city's food scene is not distance, it is six-seat counters, no English menu and a bar quarter that runs on regulars.

GetYourGuide
Hiroshima food and okonomiyaki tours
The category page. Hiroshima okonomiyaki is layered rather than mixed and contains noodles — a food tour is the fastest way to understand why locals skip the obvious stalls.
Browse food tours →
GetYourGuide
Hiroshima bar-hopping food tour
Nagarekawa's small bars are not obvious from the street and many operate on regulars. The doors are the product; the drinks are incidental.

GetYourGuide
Sake tasting — seven breweries in two hours
The city-centre version. For the real thing, Saijo in Higashi-Hiroshima is the brewery town and the half-day tours go there instead.

The remaining formats

Cycling, private and day trips
GetYourGuide
Hiroshima cycling and e-bike tours
The city is completely flat, which makes a bicycle the fastest way to link the Peace Park, the castle grounds and Mitaki Temple in one morning. Note the gap flagged below: none of these is the Shimanami Kaido.

GetYourGuide
Private guided day tours in Hiroshima
The category page. Private is the only format that lets you set the museum's duration yourself, which is the one variable that matters most here.

Klook
JR Kansai–Hiroshima Area Pass, 5 days
¥17,000 — less than a cash Osaka–Hiroshima shinkansen return, and it includes the JR Miyajima ferry. For a Kansai-plus-Hiroshima trip this beats the ¥50,000 national pass by a wide margin. The wider regional comparison is here.

Two things you cannot book here — and one you should not

The gaps

Honest gaps are more useful than a padded list. As of 4 August 2026 there are two categories GetYourGuide simply does not carry for this city, and one where a tour is the wrong purchase.

There is no GetYourGuide Shimanami Kaido cycling product. The 70km island-hopping route between Onomichi and Imabari is the best-known ride in western Japan and it is not on the platform from Hiroshima. Bookings go through the route's own rental network and the local operators instead — see the Shimanami Kaido page, and note that the bridge-toll waiver status is one of the things we have not been able to verify. The cycling tours on this page are city loops, which is a different day entirely.

There is no hibakusha-testimony tour, and there should not be one. The testimony is free and needs no tour at all: a denshosha — a trained legacy successor passing on one survivor's account — speaks in English, daily, 13:00–14:00, in the museum's East Building Basement 1, with no reservation, every day except 30–31 December and the February exhibit-change closure. Private and group bookings are also free, since the speaker honorarium was abolished in April 2024, arranged through the museum's own testimony service with a month's notice minimum. There is a third free option almost nobody publishes: 40-minute readings of survivors' written memoirs at the National Peace Memorial Hall, in English on the 2nd Sunday and 4th Friday at 14:30 and the 3rd Tuesday at 11:00. All of it, explained.

One more thing to know before you compare guided options: the free museum-affiliated Hiroshima Peace Volunteers give park commentary, but the museum states that in-museum exhibit commentary is currently suspended. The independent Hiroshima Interpreters for Peace, founded 1984 with around 200 members, run English park tours of about 1.5 hours at ¥2,000 per volunteer — usually two, so ¥4,000 — and ask for at least 10 days' notice. They advise doing the museum before the tour, which is also our advice.

How far ahead each thing needs booking

Book by

The only two hard deadlines in this city are the museum's reservation regime and the Mazda Museum. Everything else is softer than it looks.

3 months
Mazda MuseumFree, but reservation-only with no walk-ups. Booking opens three months ahead; a month is the realistic minimum. Morning tours are in Japanese, afternoon in English. Details.
90 days
Peace Memorial Museum timed slotsThe 7:30–8:30 morning slot and the evening slot are online-reservation-only all year, capped at about 300 per 30 minutes. From 8–16 August the whole day is reservation-only at 1,000 an hour. Asoview domestically, Klook from overseas.
2+ weeks
Private guides and Kansai day tripsPrivate capacity is genuinely limited and the Kyoto and Osaka products sell through. Also the window in which 5–7 August shinkansen seats disappear.
10 days
Hiroshima Interpreters for PeaceIndependent volunteer guides, English park tours of about 1.5 hours, ¥2,000 per volunteer and usually two. They ask for at least 10 days' notice.
1 week
Food, sake and combined Miyajima day toursEnough for most dates. Tighten it in November for the autumn colour and across Golden Week in May.
Same day
Peace Park walking tours, the museum itself, every tramThe museum is ¥200 at the door outside the reservation windows, the park is free and never closes, and the tram is a flat ¥240.

Hiroshima tours — the questions people ask

FAQPage schema paired
Do you need a tour in Hiroshima?

No. The Peace Memorial Park is free and open 24 hours, the museum is ¥200 with a ¥500 audio guide in 15 languages running about 70 minutes, and the trams are a flat ¥240. A tour is worth buying when it supplies something specific — the sequence between monuments, a ferry timetable, a bar door or a bicycle — rather than as a default.

Which Hiroshima tour is best?

The one matching what you cannot do yourself. Peace Park walks buy sequence at 1.5–2 hours, combined Miyajima days buy logistics across 6.5–10 hours, food and bar tours buy doors in 2–3, cycling buys a bicycle in a totally flat city, private buys pace. We do not rank by rating because we could not verify a single review count or star average.

Is a Peace Park tour worth it?

For most first visits, yes, at about 1.5–2 hours. The park is signposted as a set of objects rather than as a sequence, and the connective tissue is what a guide adds. The free alternative is real too: Hiroshima Interpreters for Peace charge ¥2,000 per volunteer with 10 days' notice, and the museum-affiliated Peace Volunteers give park commentary at no cost.

Can you book a hibakusha testimony tour?

There is no such tour on the booking platforms, and you do not need one. A trained legacy successor speaks in English every day at 13:00–14:00 in the museum's East Building Basement 1 — free, 60 minutes, no reservation. Private group sessions are also free since April 2024, booked through the museum with a month's notice.

Are there Shimanami Kaido cycling tours from Hiroshima?

Not on GetYourGuide, as of 4 August 2026. The 70km route runs from Onomichi and is booked through its own rental network and local operators. The cycling tours sold for Hiroshima are city loops of 3–4 hours covering the Peace Park, the castle grounds and Mitaki Temple, which is a different day.

How far in advance should I book a Hiroshima tour?

A week for most formats and two weeks or more for private guides and Kansai day trips. The two hard deadlines are not tours at all: the Mazda Museum opens bookings three months out and takes no walk-ups, and the museum's timed slots release 90 days ahead — with the whole of 8–16 August reservation-only at 1,000 people an hour.

Is a Hiroshima and Miyajima day tour worth it?

It is the strongest packaged product in the city if you have one day and want both, because somebody else owns the ferry and the walking order. Check the tide for your date first — no operator can move its crossing, and between roughly 100cm and 250cm the torii neither floats nor can be walked to.

How much do Hiroshima tours cost?

We do not publish tour prices because none could be verified and they move weekly. What we can price is the alternative: ¥200 for the museum, ¥500 for its audio guide, ¥300 for Itsukushima Shrine, ¥2,000 for the ropeway return or ¥1,100 one way, and ¥700 for an all-day tram pass. That is the number any tour has to beat.
